The Lauren Corporation Partners with Habitat for Humanity to build a new house for the Flores Family.
ABILENE,TX (August 1, 2007) On July 27-28, The Lauren Corporation embarked on its third partner project with the Abilene chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
“Lauren has enjoyed cultivating an ongoing relationship with Habitat the last couple years,” Cleve Whitener, President of The Lauren Corporation, said. “It is an excellent opportunity for fellowship among co-workers, but more importantly, to be a part of something bigger than ourselves – creating a bright future for deserving local families.”
15 Lauren employees volunteered their time and energy for this project. The group, consisting of Lauren employees and their families, worked on two projects. One group focused their efforts on building all of the walls for a new home, while another group focused on building a fence at a nearly-completed Habitat home. By the end of the weekend, all walls had been built for the new home and the fence was completed.
Since beginning a partnership with Habitat over one year ago, a diverse group of Lauren volunteers has contributed over 400 hours to Habitat Projects. Lauren sees this partnership as a living expression of its Vision Statement: “To be a light to the World.” Jody Lee, Brand Manager for Lauren, commented: “Habitat is a great organization to work with because they are passionate about their goal: to provide affordable housing for those in need. It’s incredibly rewarding to help someone who truly needs it, and it is a privilege to be able to give back to our community in this way.”
Cody Forsberg, a mechanical engineer, added, "It was my second Habitat project to work on in the last year and it was just as rewarding as the first time. Not only did I see an entire fence raised up throughout the weekend, but I learned valuable technical skills that will help the next time I volunteer.”
Lauren looks forward to a lasting partnership with Habitat, with the next partner project planned for this Fall.
