EPC Project - 70 MW Solar Power Generating Facility

Nevada Solar One has selected Lauren Engineers & Constructors as the EPC contractor to build a 70 MW power generating facility in Boulder City, Nevada - the largest-capacity solar thermal plant to be built in the last 15 years and the third-largest in the world. The project will use the latest in alternative fuel technology from Solargenix Energy, Inc. Upon project completion, the plant will consist of a Power Block area and a 400-acre field of mirror arrays that will focus the heat of the desert sun into a heat transfer fluid system. Estimated completion date is the second quarter of 2007.

EPC Project – 225 MW Combined Cycle

Lauren Engineers & Constructors was awarded a contract for the engineering, procurement, and construction of an additional 225MW of generation capacity to Black Hills’ Las Vegas Cogeneration II Power Plant. Scope of work included four LM 6000 gas turbine generators in combined cycle, two 28 MW steam turbine generators, four once-thru heat recovery steam generators, gas turbine inlet chilling systems and all required balance of plant equipment.

EPC Project - Five Unit Simple-Cycle Power Facility

Lauren was responsible for the greenfield installation of 4 dual fuel GE 7EA's and 1 dual fuel GE 7FA combustion turbine. Project scope also included fuel unloading and storage facility, gas conditioning equipment, startup and commissioning and plant building.

14 month schedule from award to commercial operation.

EPC Project - Water Treatment System

Lauren Engineers & Constructors was responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of a 5,500,000 gpd pre-treatment system for plant cooling and de-mineralized water at the LS Power, LLC Batesville Energy Plant. The basis of the design was a Kruger clarifier system that included coagulation, chemical injection, maturation and settling. An Ortex belt press was supplied to dry and handle sludge produced in the process. The work included design and construction of civil works, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation systems.

General Contractor - 550 MW Combined Cycle

Lauren Engineers & Constructors was the General Contractor for the installation of a 550 MW combined cycle power plant. Project consisted of 2 GE 7FA combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, one 200 MW steam turbine, one 8 cell cooling tower, water treatment facility, one 2 million gallon demineralized water storage tank, one 2.25 million gallon fuel oil storage tank, fuel unloading facility, 3 GSU transformers, all underground ductbanks and utilities, 96" circulating water system, piping river water intake pump system, and final site work/roads. The project was located in an existing coal fired power plant facility. Project was a ground up installation through start-up and commissioning.

General Contractor - Erect Heat Recovery Steam Generators

Lauren Engineers & Constructors, Inc. erected four (4) ABB CE 1,100,000 pound per hour dual-pressure HRSG's for American National Power's Midlothian, Texas plant. Scope of work included all Section I ASME code work, supports, access structures, inlet and outlet duct work, stacks, SCR's, instrumentation and electrical associated with the HRSG's.

Engineering & Procurement - Lignite-Fired Power Plant

San Miguel Electric Cooperative
San Miguel, TX

Lauren Engineers & Constructors, Inc. was responsible for all design and procurement of this green field, single unit lignite-fired power plant for the San Miguel Electric Cooperative. The plant burns Texas lignite and is located at the mine mouth. The plant has a generating capacity of 450 MW. The back end environmental control equipment includes an electrostatic precipitator, SO2 scrubber and flue gas desulfurization waste treatment system. The plant is designed for zero discharge and is recognized for its low $ cost per KW and high availability.

Engineering & Procurement - Coal-Fired Power Plant

Lauren Engineers & Constructors, Inc was responsible for all design and procurement of this green field, single unit Power River Basin coal-fired plant for American Electric Power. The plant has a generating capacity of 750 MW. The back end environmental control equipment includes an electrostatic precipitator and SO2 scrubber. The plant was the first to be controlled by a fully integrated DCS system and set a record for lowest $ cost per KW for a coal fired plant built with a SO2 scrubber in the 1980's.

Lauren Engineers & Constructors was the engineering subcontractor on the Siemens Westinghouse EPC team. Lauren’s scope of work included design of site work, concrete structures, balance of plant mechanical systems and balance of plant electrical systems for the installation of two simple cycle Siemens V84.2 combustion turbines units and two simple cycle Siemens V84.3 combustion turbines.

DCS Upgrade

Lauren Engineers & Constructors, Inc. performed a DCS upgrade and mechanical modifications at the Northeast Power Station. Scope of work involved integrating the control systems of the existing gas-fired power station and two new combined cycle units.

New Substation & Transmission Lines

Lauren Engineers and Constructors, Inc. was responsible for the design and construction of a new 161/230 kV substation and transmission lines for an 834MW merchant power plant located in Mississippi. Scope of work included design and installation of eight 161 kV overhead lines for connections to plant GSU and Auxiliary Transformers, two 161 kV transmission lines to interconnect with a TVA substation and one 230 kV transmission line to interconnect with an Entergy substation. Design and installation of the substation includes thirteen 161 kV circuit breakers, eighteen 161 kV disconnect switches, four 240/320/400 MVA 161-230 kV auto-transformers, rigid bus systems rated 161kV and 230 kV, control building, AC and DC auxiliary power systems, protective relay panels for substation and transmission line protection, and a SCADA RTU system.
